Honoring Bravery: National Medal of Honor Day

Writer: Cathy HertlerCathy Hertler

Every year on March 25, we recognize National Medal of Honor Day, a time to honor the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of those who have received the Medal of Honor, the highest military award in the United States. Established by Congress in 1990, this day serves as a reminder of the courage, selflessness, and dedication demonstrated by these heroes in service to our country.

The Medal of Honor is awarded to service members who have displayed unparalleled valor in combat, often at great personal risk. Since its inception during the Civil War, over 3,500 individuals have received this distinguished award. Their stories of heroism inspire generations and remind us of the sacrifices made to protect our freedoms.

On this day, take a moment to reflect on their bravery, express gratitude to those who have served, and share their stories to ensure their legacy endures. Whether by visiting a veterans’ memorial, attending a ceremony, or simply learning more about these heroes, every gesture of appreciation matters.
